Many of these are Powerpoint presentations, videos or poems created by someone else and forwarded over and again.

Some of these messages are wonderful and incite feelings of love and compassion, which to me, is the gift of this season.

One message that floats around during every holiday tells you to compare yourself to others. Such as: If you have (certain things in your life), that someone else doesn’t have …. you should be grateful (that you are not them, have more then them, are doing better off than them, etc).

This message troubles me and as explanation I offer the following:

An excerpt from my recent book on Gratitude:

Dr. Robert A. Emmons, A UC Davis psychologist, conducted a 10 week research in the psychology of gratitude. In one of his studies the participants were asked to list what they were grateful for compared to what they weren’t happy about in their lives. In another study they were asked to list what they were grateful for where thought they were better off than others.

The results showed that those who expressed gratitude without comparing themselves as “better than” were significantly happier than those making comparisons between themselves and others.

From another study at USC on self esteem:

A dangerous silent damage to your feelings of self worth is created and intensified when you compare yourself to being better off or more successful, or more of anything than someone else. By practicing the habit of comparison when you are feeling happy with yourself or your life, you are establishing the foundation for feelings of lack of self worth when you don’t measure up to any comparison in the future. The inherent problem with this habit is that then takes considerably more effort to repair your feeling of lack which can contribute to difficulty in regaining levels of success in chosen areas of your life. A person who can see their unique qualities, success and strengths without the need to compare themselves to anyone other than themselves are found to be emotionally stronger when facing difficult decisions and occurrences.

I wish you all the Happiest of Holidays because YOU are awesome, unique and amazing.

This year, if you see yourself in the mirror wearing a brand new outfit - remember a time when you didn't or couldn't afford one - and be grateful to yourself that you now can give this or accept this for yourself.

This year, as you look into the eyes of a loved one, remember a time when you felt unloved, and be grateful to yourself that you opened your heart to love.

This year, when you take a deep breath of fresh air, remember a time when you felt ill or suffered a disease in your body - and be grateful to yourself for your opportunity to take a deep breath today.

Can you find other areas of your life where you were once without something important in your life, and now your life has changed where this is now present? Be grateful to yourself.

Compare yourself only to yourself and be grateful.

Wishing you PEACE as this year ends; HOPE as the new year begins and LOVE of family and friends.

Make Every Day Count

Written by an 83-year-old woman to her friend:

I'm reading more and dusting less. I'm sitting in the yard and admiring the view without fussing about the weeds in the garden.

I'm spending more time with my family and friends and less time working. Whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experiences to savor, not to endure. I'm trying to recognize these moments now and cherish them.

I'm not "saving" anything; we use our good china and crystal for every special event such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, or the first Amaryllis blossom. I wear my good blazer to the market.

My theory is if I look prosperous, I can shell out $28.49 for one small bag of groceries. I'm not saving my good perfume for special parties, but wearing it for clerks in the hardware store and tellers at the bank.

"Someday" and "one of these days" are losing their grip on my vocabulary. If it's worth seeing or hearing or doing, I want to see and hear and do it now.

I'm not sure what others would've done had they known that they wouldn't be here for the tomorrow that we all take for granted. I think they would have called family members and a few close friends. They might have called a few former friends to apologize and mend fences for past squabbles. I like to think they would have gone out for a Chinese dinner, or for whatever their favorite food was. I'm guessing; I'll never know.

It's those little things left undone that would make me angry if I knew my hours were limited. Angry because I hadn't written certain letters that I intended to write one of these days. Angry and sorry that I didn't tell my husband and parents often enough how much I truly love them. I'm trying very hard not to put off, hold back, or save anything that would add laughter and luster to our lives.

And every morning when I open my eyes, tell myself that it is special.

Every day, every minute, every breath truly is a gift.

Everyone is a genius.....

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px; height: 375px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pGZ0RM7TcMc/TrbDY5ly3dI/AAAAAAAAAU4/9XYeOjDRaXQ/s400/einstein.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5671935613263338962" />

You are significant

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. And that make me feel such a deep feeling for love and life, that I call that a grateful feeling.” In order to feel the depth of her gratitude Nancy believes that she must be willing to know why she feels gratitude. This month’s Spiritual Cinema Circle volume brings a message of love and hope within life’s difficult moments. Starring Kristen Stewart (Twilight) and Bruce Dern (Monster) the feature, Cake Eaters, is a coming-of-age drama all ages can relate to. This heart-felt story explores the new (and old) connections between two small-town families. color: rgb(66, 0, 66);" mce_style="font-family: Arial; color: #420042;">
It’s everywhere!

We experience traffic jams, deadlines, eating on the run, We stress when we have bills to pay, job changes, endless chores and too many errands. Our job has stress, not having a job has stress, it’s stressful maintaining your weight, having a relationship is stressful, not being in a relationship is stressful, family responsibilities are stress, and all those demands on you can be huge amounts of stress. Not to mention those people who really get on your nerves.

Stress!! It’s there! It’s everywhere!

Is there anything that can be done? There are so many recommendations for reducing stress, but what really works? Something you do everyday may be different that something you need to do when the stress gauge rises.

We wanted to find answers, tools and techniques which were actually being used and could be shared so more people would have choices on how to work with, manage and embrace the stress in their lives.

“If you want to lose weight, go to a skinny doctor.” Zig Ziglar

As we interpret from Zig’s quote, it’s more than just talking about it, it’s actually putting your words intro practice. And being able to explain well enough that someone else can benefit as well.

Barbara Kramer, a professional event planner is a co-author in the book STRESS OUT. She uses a visualization technique when someone adds stress to her day.

Visualization is a technique where you close your eyes and imagine yourself in another place. A place where your stress leaves you. Barbara says that this is easy and offers a suggested visualization the next time someone really gets on your nerves and see if it helps you.

You take a minute and close your eyes, take a very deep, slow breath and imagine yourself sitting by the side of a beautiful flowing stream of cool water. Then let your visualization continue as you see yourself walk into the stream and splash around in the water. Your stress begins to leave you. You look around at the beautiful scenery, the open sky. You look down at your hands in the water and see that your fingers are tightly around the neck of the person who has been aggravating you as you hold their head under water. Now doesn’t that make you feel better.

Barbara quickly says that her intent is not to actually harm another person, but this visualization releases her from the stress hold she feels from the other person’s behavior. Then she can move on to more healthy and actual solutions.

For long term healthy results, Barbara gives two powerful examples of visualization techniques that can not only shift stress energy, but will also stimulate your creative thinking, which brings about solutions that you can put into action. Someone reading Barbara’s chapter might also be looking for a event planner than can function well under the pressure.

We all have stress. It’s is a really term that is commonly used to describe the symptoms your body has in response to increased tension.

The "stress" which people complain about, or that which makes them function less well, is a feeling of tension or pressure that you experience when you feel that the demands placed on you appear to exceed the resources you have to deal with them.

Believe it or not, a certain level of stress is good and is normal to help you deal with the challenges of life. Too much stress, on the other hand, causes your body to react in unpleasant ways. It can even kill you. It is more than being a simple medical condition.

Stress is your body's response.; a combination of physical, mental, and emotional feelings resulting from pressure, worry, especially worry about those things that never finally happen, or worry over guilt from the past.

Stress is anxiety, guilt, the lack of taking responsibility for your own life and the results. It’s frustration, a feeling of loss of control, and (a big one) is our attempts to control others. If they would only change, then we wouldn’t have to, and since they won’t oblige, we’re stressed.

Relaxation techniques rather than fighting against stress can be another method to maintain balance in your life.

No matter how many times you’ve been promised la-la land by certain helath and energy workers or what you’ve heard from Zen Buddhists and transcendental meditators about “just say OM”; relaxation can be hard work under certain circumstances. A couple of those circumstances could be when your blind date comes to the door in a straightjacket or you show no reflection in the mirror. Other more real circumstances occur in your life everyday, so valid relaxation techniques are necessary and STRESS OUT book intends to offer as many choices as the pages will hold.

Surprising as it seems, some stress does have positive outcomes. "Good stress" If you are an athlete, good stress can give you the energy you need to excel in a physical competition. If you are a computer programmers, good stress could stimulate your thinking. If you are a music composer's , good stress could stimulate your creative energy.

Good stress can give many people the energy to solve problems and to finish hard work. In basic terms, stress is an aspect of living that can be beneficial when it motivates you, encourages change for you or inspires you, but can be the opposite when it does not. Your body is actually designed to deal very well with pressure, excitement or stress while working towards a goal or working through a challenging event; and after the accomplishment of your goal, or the event passes, your body has the need to relax, slow down again and recharge itself.

It is only when this pressure, or this stress, becomes so continuous and intense that you are unable to relax and you feel distressed." You feel out of control, you are no longer able to handle the demands made on you, and your body begins to feel unwell. Too many people go to their Doctors every year with unspecific symptoms of not feeling themselves.

The key to managing stress is achieving the right balance of forces between tension and relaxation.

Samuel Patricks, an Attorney, and another co-author in the book STRESS OUT, had a heart attack at a very young age. Too young. He now uses the stress of physical exercise to keep himself healthy physically and emotionally. Not just any exercise, he runs marathons; and not just any marathon – he runs in marathons where he can raise money for his favorite charities. So an additional positive stress motivator he places on himself is his financial fundraising goal. He sees it as a win-win. Plus after a marathon, his body has spent all of its stress. He is ready to relax and recharge.

Readers of his chapter may be motivated by his example to do something that helps their stress level while they are helping someone else. Someone looking for an attorney will read something more personal about Mr. Patrick that they won’t find on his C.V, which will motivate them to consider him for their legal work.

So many times we treat our automobiles better than we treat our mental and physical bodies. That vehicle we travel in everywhere is out physical body and it needs great care to continue to function properly.

You probably wouldn’t think of jump starting your car in the morning, cold start without fuel and running it hard all day. Never shutting off the engine leaving it running, even when not going anywhere. You probably wouldn’t think of running your car engine at its optimum, in high gear, constantly revving the engine for more power, driving it continually with no service break. If you do, then you know, that if you did this to your car, it would start to break down. And it would become less reliable, and then it would rapidly begin to break down, usually at the most inconvenient times.

Yet, many people jump start their days; run themselves in high gear, overheated, under fed and poor fuel, over accelerated constant push and no breaks. Then we wonder, why we are feeling so poorly and less effective? !

Unrelieved stress can take an emotional as well as physical toll, in the form of anxiety or depression or high blood pressure and heart disease. If unattended, stress can seriously your damage physical health; psychological well-being; and your relationships with your friends, family, and co-workers. It’s never too soon or too late to start decreasing the effects of stress in your life.

There are dozens of ways you can work with and through stress and maintain a healthy life regardless of the external events. These can include acupuncture, biofeedback, EFT, energy work, exercise, humor, hypnosis, meditation, music, NLP, nutrition and so much more and new methods are being proven in people’s lives every day.

STRESS OUT book will be on the shelves in the all 2009, and it will be used as a fundraising tool through many companies. Dyer!

Dear Friends,

I've just completed one of my life's great experiences and I invite you to share it! Making my first movie at age 68 was an unexpected gift from the Universe that filled me with wonder and amazement. Ambition to Meaning: Finding Your Life's Purpose has given me the opportunity to marvel at the limitless power of the human spirit to discover and rediscover all that we can be.

Never underestimate the power of great natural beauty to bring you inspiration, peace of mind, and clarity of thought. Ambition to Meaning was filmed at Asilomar, "refuge by the sea," on the breathtaking Monterey Peninsula of California's central coast, a landscape of mist and pines and pounding surf. In nature, you find yourself. The characters in our story discover a new path for themselves that too much focus on success, competition, and worldly concern almost made them miss. They find the music within that gives life real worth.

This movie touches me profoundly and I'm prouder of it than of anything I've done before. Which goes to show that you are never too old to learn and grow and look in awe at the teaching power of the Universe. From the kite fluttering in the wind above to the sand between your toes, there is wonder to be found in every moment. Move with me from Ambition to Meaning and begin enjoying your life as never before!

Namaste,
Wayne

Ambition to Meaning was directed by the
wonderfully talented Emmy award winner
Michael Goorjian. Some people are happy with their results. Others want something to change. Some people exceeded their goals and are excited for their next results. Others are struggling to make ends meet, find love, drop those extra pounds. Some will be glad the year is over. Some will end the year with regrets.

What does 2009 hold for you? Will it be more of the same or are you looking for a change? Even those who are happy with their results in 2008, many would still like something new or a change in something in the coming year.New Years Eve is the re-start of many old habits.

Millions of people will voice new years resolutions in one night, and within the week over 75% will have broken them. Some people know they will never meet their resolutions but a small flicker of wishing and hoping that this year will be different motivates them to say them anyway.
2009 can be your best year ever ! Great tips and free downloads are here to get you started.

Tip #1:

Don't make New Years resolutions this year. Make your acknowledgment list instead.

Studies show that for a sales person, the best time to make a sale is right after you made one. The best time to create another success in your life, is right after you have just experienced one.

Why is that? It is because your energy is now focused on success, feeling good about what you just accomplished and you are feeling a "success high". So then it would make sense that the most difficult time to set new goals or resolutions is when you are not feeling confident, not feeling proud of your accomplishments or not feeling successful. Yet this lack of success is what most people are feeling when they set New Year resolutions. This seems to be one answer to the question as to why over 75% of people give up on their new resolutions after only a couple of weeks. Start your New Year with a "success high" and propel your self towards greater success in 2009. Start by NOT making New Years resolutions this year and making an acknowledgment list instead.

"The more you focus on and list your accomplishments,
the more accomplishments you will recognize." ~ Brenda Stuart ~

Click here to download a free copy
of Acknowledgment Journal Sheets

Tip #2

Write your list with what you are happy you did, are proud of yourself for or something you accomplished this past year.

Then do something else with this list. We are so conditioned by society that we must have more; that more is better. We rush to make our lists longer, and in the process we lose the depth. Rather than quickly writing a list (usually by habit), and putting it away, choose one item from your list– and really take all the time to feel all of the joy and passion that is connected to and within it.

Feel and seek to understand WHY this is important to you, why you are proud of yourself, why this accomplishment is a milestone or a success for you. Stay with that one item all day. Think about it, feel it, understand your reasons for acknowledging yourself for it.

The next day choose another one from your list. Get to know the deepest parts of yourself through your choices of self acknowledgement.

What is your ONE today?

born ... again

Many people come into this world knowing they weren’t wanted. Yes, it is a harsh statement, but one that cannot be denied. Sometimes a pregnancy occurs “by accident” and even though the parents accept it, they are far from happy about it. Unknowingly, the mother transmits this information to her unborn child, and often, the child grows into an adult who feels unwanted…never understanding why.

About mid-way through pregnancy, the unborn child starts downloading programs from the mother. For years, we understood that nutrition was passed across the placenta, but never did it occur to us that the mother’s perceptions also made the journey. But the truth is, perceptions about the environment (whether the mother feels safe or at risk) cause biological responses in her body. Chemicals are released into her bloodstream, and that blood travels into the system of the fetus.

When certain chemicals are released into the bloodstream, the cells respond quickly. If fear is involved, the body responds by increasing blood flow to the extremities for the “fight or flight” mode. The primitive brain is flooded with increased blood supply, and systems operated by the more rational mind tend to shut down. In that moment, auto-immune illnesses are filed into the storage bin as future potential problems. The DNA of the fetus adjusts. When the child is finally born, programs have been established that have the potential to cause the child all kinds of problems. Often, such children are physically strong (due to increased blood supply to the arms and legs), but the intelligence quota might not be as high as the child whose mother felt safe and loved. Others may have higher than average intelligence, but experience constant physical and mental problems. Often, these people are plagued with depression and feelings of unworthiness. As you can imagine, different emotional responses in the mother cause different problems for her child. All emotions–brought about due to perceptions– however, leave an imprint on the child. It is easy to see why it becomes so very important for the expectant parents to feel as much love and peace as possible.

The good news is, this damage can be undone. If an adult recognizes that negative programs were downloaded either in the fetal stage or in early childhood, that energy can be removed and re-recorded to better serve the current reality.

It is very important for us to feel safe and loved. Coming from that place, we are biologically enabled to make good choices. The chemicals that tell us all is well are conducive to higher intelligence, sound judgments, good health, peace and acceptance. When we feel protected and appreciated, the immune system operates at the highest level, and the body naturally feels good. During those times, the blood flow increases in the frontal lobe of the brain, causing “feel-good” chemicals to pour into the body’s cells. The good news spreads quickly as the information is shared with all the systems. There is no longer a need to run nor hide. All is well. The cells react by moving back into a healthful state. Healing happens.

No matter what beliefs we took on in early life, we always have the option of changing them. We must find a way to undo those old patterns of feeling unwanted and unloved. If our parents weren’t equipped to handle raising a child, maybe it is time to forgive them. They must have had reasons for feeling that way. The truth is, love is not encased in two parental figures we named Mother and Father. In fact, it cannot be limited to any particular person or persons. If we decide to make ourselves available to love–regardless of what form it takes–we suddenly realize we are immersed in it.

Look around you. Where do you see love in expression? Can you see it in your pet, your children, your neighbors or your friends? Is it found in the wonder of nature or the magnificence of a great idea? Perhaps you have glimpsed it in certain words or in a beautiful smile. Love is showing up all over the place, but maybe you had limitations on where it had to be or how it would look. Let go of those boundaries and see it in the millions of forms it takes. No matter where it expresses, it all comes from the One Source. Recognize it. Feel it. Know you, too, are it.

If you have been living your life feeling unworthy or unwanted, I suggest you decide today will be the day you are reborn. Close your eyes and imagine two angelic beings who have conceived a precious expression of this love they feel. See yourself as the embryo that develops into a fetus, carried in the womb of protection and nurturing. Hear your mother’s voice telling you how much you are loved and wanted. Feel your father’s hand touch the belly that holds your essence. Watch the vibration of health and love flow between your mother and yourself. Know how special you are as the nutrients stimulate the cells of your body to bless you with perfect health. In this feeling of ecstasy, enter this world as a welcomed soul whose birth is blissfully anticipated. See the gratitude in the eyes of your parents and know how deeply you are loved. Let this be the day of your birth…a new day, a new being. You are so loved, so worthy, so wanted.

Now…go forward in this experience and witness the love you’ve been given. See it everywhere, all the time. Accept every morsel you are given, regardless of how it shows up. Gathering the morsels, you accumulate great wealth. You are extraordinarily abundant in every aspect of life. Love is infinite, eternal. It has many faces. It is all the same thing. Step into the flow and accept it.

I stand in awe at the beauty and grandeur of your essence. How lucky you are to be that loved! Angels sing and the word has spread. A grand celebration takes place in unseen dimensions. The buzz is all about what great things you will do. No where has there ever been a birth so celebrated. We watch and applaud your successes. When you start to feel alone or afraid, we hover around you, fluttering wings in hopes you will remember who you are…how loved you are.

Today is a new day…a new beginning. You are surrounded by the gift of Presence that shows how much you are wanted. Never again doubt it. You are loved.

Original post from http://godisaverb.com/blog , reposted with permission

Appreciated

“The deepest craving of human nature is the need to be appreciated.”
~ William James ~

FREE DVD - You Can Heal Your Life with Louise Hay

LOUISE HAY, the pioneer who taught us the metaphysical causes behind myriad physical ailments and how to apply positive affirmations, is the subject of an important documentary film entitled YOU CAN HEAL YOUR LIFE. Only thus, said they, could everything be done at its proper time. Others declared that it was impossible to decide beforehand the right time for every action; but that, not letting oneself be absorbed in idle pastimes, one should always attend to all that was going on, and then do what was most needful.

Others, again, said that however attentive the King might be to what was going on, it was impossible for one man to decide correctly the right time for every action, but that he should have a Council of wise men, who would help him to fix the proper time for everything.

But then again others said there were some things which could not wait to be laid before a Council, but about which one had at once to decide whether to undertake them or not. But in order to decide that one must know beforehand what was going to happen. It is only magicians who know that; and, therefore in order to know the right time for every action, one must consult magicians.

Equally various were the answers to the second question. Some said, the people the King most needed were his councillors; others, the priests; others, the doctors; while some said the warriors were the most necessary.

To the third question, as to what was the most important occupation: some replied that the most important thing in the world was science. Others said it was skill in warfare; and others, again, that it was religious worship.

All the answers being different, the King agreed with none of them, and gave the reward to none. But still wishing to find the right answers to his questions, he decided to consult a hermit, widely renowned for his wisdom. The hermit lived in a wood which he never quitted and he received none but common folk. So the King put on simple clothes, and before reaching the hermit's cell dismounted from his horse, and, leaving his bodyguard behind, went on alone.

When the King approached, the hermit was digging the ground in front of his hut. Seeing the King, he greeted him and went on digging. The hermit was frail and weak, and each time he stuck his spade into the ground and turned a little earth, he breathed heavily.

The King went up to him and said: 'I have come to you, wise hermit, to ask you to answer three questions: How can I learn to do the right thing at the right time? Who are the people I most need, and to whom should I, therefore, pay more attention than to the rest? And, what affairs are the most important and need my first attention?' The hermit listened to the King, but answered nothing. He just spat on his hand and recommenced digging.

"You are tired," said the King, 'let me take the spade and work awhile for you.

''Thanks!" said the hermit, and, giving the spade to the King, he sat down on the ground.

When he had dug two beds, the King stopped and repeated his questions. The hermit again gave no answer, but rose, stretched out his hand for the spade, and said: "Now rest awhile -- and let me work a bit."

But the King did not give him the spade, and continued to dig. One hour passed, and another. The sun began to sink behind the trees, and the King at last stuck the spade into the ground, and said: "I came to you, wise man, for an answer to my questions. If you can give me none, tell me so, and I will return home."

''Here comes some one running," said the hermit, "let us see who it is."

The King turned round, and saw a bearded man come running out of the wood. The man held his hands pressed against his stomach, and blood was flowing from under them. When he reached the King, he fell fainting on the ground moaning feebly. The King and the hermit unfastened the man's clothing. There was a large wound in his stomach. The King washed it as best he could, and bandaged it with his handkerchief and with a towel the hermit had. But the blood would not stop flowing, and the King again and again removed the bandage soaked with warm blood, and washed and rebandaged the wound. When at last the blood ceased flowing, the man revived and asked for something to drink. The King brought fresh water and gave it to him.

Meanwhile the sun had set, and it had become cool. So the King, with the hermit's help, carried the wounded man into the hut and laid him on the bed. Lying on the bed the man closed his eyes and was quiet; but the King was so tired with his walk and with the work he had done, that he crouched down on the threshold, and also fell asleep -- so soundly that he slept all through the short summer night.

When he awoke in the morning, it was long before he could remember where he was, or who was the strange bearded man lying on the bed and gazing intently at him with shining eyes. "Forgive me!" said the bearded man in a weak voice, when he saw that the King was awake and was looking at him.

"I do not know you, and have nothing to forgive you for," said the King.

"You do not know me, but I know you. I am that enemy of yours who swore to revenge himself on you, because you executed his brother and seized his property. I knew you had gone alone to see the hermit, and I resolved to kill you on your way back. But the day passed and you did not return. So I came out from my ambush to find you, and I came upon your bodyguard, and they recognized me, and wounded me. I escaped from them, but should have bled to death had you not dressed my wound. I wished to kill you, and you have saved my life. Now, if I live, and if you wish it, I will serve you as your most faithful slave, and will bid my sons do the same. Forgive me!"

The King was very glad to have made peace with his enemy so easily, and to have gained him for a friend, and he not only forgave him, but said he would send his servants and his own physician to attend him, and promised to restore his property.

Having taken leave of the wounded man, the King went out into the porch and looked around for the hermit. Before going away he wished once more to beg an answer to the questions he had put. The hermit was outside, on his knees, sowing seeds in the beds that had been dug the day before.

The King approached him, and said: "For the last time, I pray you to answer my questions, wise man."

''You have already been answered!" said the hermit still crouching on his thin legs, and looking up at the King, who stood before him.

"How answered? What do you mean?" asked the King.

"Do you not see,' replied the hermit. "If you had not pitied my weakness yesterday, and had not dug these beds for me, but had gone your way, that man would have attacked you, and you would have repented of not having stayed with me. So the most important time was when you were digging the beds; and I was the most important man; and to do me good was your most important business. Afterwards, when that man ran to us, the most important time was when you were attending to him, for if you had not bound up his wounds he would have died without having made peace with you. So he was the most important man, and what you did for him was your most important business. Remember then: there is only one time that is important -- Now! It is the most important time because it is the only time when we have any power. The most necessary man is he with whom you are, for no man knows whether he will ever have dealings with any one else: and the most important affair is, to do him good, because for that purpose alone was man sent into this life!"

Movies Imitating Life?

I watched the movie ”Women” this weekend. In the movie (not spoiling the ending), the Meg Ryan character hits what she calls bottom, and finally asks herself ‘What Do I Want?”. She took out a black felt marker and wrote that question on the top of a page, and then went on to write down what she believed she wanted from the deepest recesses of herself. She went on to create a vision board.

After clarifying her wants, she took action. You have to see the movie to see how it turns out. It wasn’t without bumps in her road.

I have experienced that many people will give lip service to their wants or complain about what is not in their life. Some will write one thing or two, and when events don’t appear the way they specify, the focus on the list goes away. It is replaced with compromise or complaining or giving up.

One of my clients had a strong desire for her perfect boyfriend. She sat with me and wrote her list, starting with her 5 non-compromisable characteristics, those deal breakers. Next were listed items that were negotiable, and finishing her list with characteristics and appearances that would be nice.

Very quickly she met what she described at the perfect man. Within months they were exclusive and started living together. Almost immediately she witnessed a behavior in this man that was on her non-compromisable list. When she brought it to his attention, he told her he would change for her. Unfortunately his behavior did not change, in fact it escalated and he started telling her that she was too demanding. This woman was not willing to see how this non-compromisable item on her list was only a hope and not a commitment.

After two years of struggle, she left this man and went through a painful healing process. She pulled out her list again, and this time she was very clear about what was important to her. The short story is that she is now with a man who not only matches every characteristic on her list, he has the same non-compromisable items that she does. They are headed towards marriage, something they both desire to share with each other. She proudly tells people that she got everything on her list, with bonuses. This man brought new adventures into her life, she had not previously imagined.

I have a client who wants to expand her business with clients that fit a specific description. Every time she accepts a client “because she needs the money”, instead of focusing on clients that fit her perfect client as described on her list, she has problems. She continues to have money problems clients. Her “for the money” clients are taking the majority of her time and a few have asked for their money back.

These days I add Michael Phelps to my examples of how it works when you write it down. This year he revealed how he had a piece of paper, his intention list in his bedroom and after his remarkable wins at the Olympics in an interview with Bob Costas: “What was on that much talked about piece of paper? You wish list or your intention list?” Phelps:” I think you saw it. It was all there, I think the only difference was the 200 fly, but other than that everything was pretty close to, pretty close to identical to what was written on the piece of paper.”

Knowing what you desire and are willing to be committed to is most important when writing this list. Being specific is critical. I hear the word “honesty” being placed on many non-compromisable lists. I always ask – what does honesty mean? Is honest defined as ALL the time, or is there a disclaimer when it comes to the IRS or telemarketers?? You must know the true definition of the words you choose to use.

What is on your list works when you place your commitment to your desires. Being conscious and taking conscious action is required. This works in all areas of life.

What type of life do you want?

What is non-compromisable in business, career, health, friends, relationships?

What is negotiable?

Write it down.

Your results can be magical, marvelous and well deserved.

You are a Diamond

Self Improvement is impossible.

How can you improve what is already perfect?

"Your 'Self” was created in the image and likeness of your Creator.
